Currently, there is no more greatly polarizing an issue between scientists as harm to the immune system from Covid. When herd immunity was being discussed, it was a uniformly accepted notion. It was only lately when the constant discussion of herd immunity thresholds became greatly mooted, (with T cell immunity as a contributing factor to herd immunity gone with it.)
Just as ubiquitous as the discussion of herd immunity thresholds, was the absence of discussion that Covid was causing harm to the immune system. It was dismissed as a “fringe” theory, with relevance only being pushed by yours truly in the public sphere. You all may recall a certain virologist calling me a fearmonger, proselytizing from the fringes of science. In reality he was several decades my senior, and I am very junior.
The notion of Covid’s dysregulation of the immune system started breaking into the public sphere when a Canadian public health agency said evidence was mounting that Covid was capable of dysregulating the immune system. This caused many people to perk up, and conversely, caused many people to claim immune dysregulation did not exist. Ad hominem attacks and appeals to authority followed, as well as denial of harm to the immune system.
Let me be clear: Covid 100% adversely affects the immune system. The questions that remain are, how badly, for how long, and can it be progressive harm?
Here is the immune harm that is being acknowledged:
Karl Lauterbach’s acknowledgement:
So here you have it. Two leaders of their respective fields claiming covid harms and ages the immune system, versus a few others who adamantly claim Covid does not harm the immune system.
You be the judge.
Stay safe out there,
AJ
I want to scream, loudly. The evidence is overwhelmingly present for immune dysregulation by SARS-CoV2, both basic science and clinically, yet the minimizes and tone police will not admit it. Good grief. Succinct, well written article, sir. Thank you.
